Speech Pathology is primarily a one-on-one form of therapy that is focused on using comprehensive assessments to create plans that assist patients in eating safely, maintaining nutritious diets, and decreasing the likelihood of Aspiration Pneumonia.


Initial Assessments

This comprehensive initial assessment covers aspects including the following:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) - ACFI Domain 1
  • Feeding, Drinking and Diet Assessment
  • Cognition Assessment
  • Recent Medical Issues
  • Dysphagia (swallowing) Assessment


Following the Initial Assessment, all residents will be issued with a comprehensive, individualised CARE PLAN that covers:

  • Safe swallowing of food and fluids
  • Decrease incidence of Aspiration Pneumonia
  • Improve nutrition and hydration
  • Nursing interventions
  • Diet recommendations
